About Tom Rumsey
Like most wood turners, I started out with mostly traditional bowls and boxes, but my interest has evolved into more abstract forms. Working with unusual pieces of wood, cracks, holes and rotten sections present unique challenges. The wood leads me through its imperfections and into its bold and flamboyant beauty.
My other current interest in the addition of bone and/or antler into these turning projects. The antler or bones are used to enhance the texture of the turnings, with some becoming major parts of the objects themselves.
I have also collaborated with my wife, Susan, on several wood, metal and paper projects.
I believe that it is these imperfects and unusual materials that bring my work to life. After all, life is full of beautiful imperfection!
