About Melody Allen
Melody began working in pastels in 2000 and had her first show in 2005. Since then she has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows. Her work has been accepted into many juried competitions and has received awards in regional as well as national exhibitions.
“I love the lush colors of pastels and the ability to blend them or to leave marks of pure color. I enjoy working with them because they are immediate; there is no pre-mixing as there is with paint, and there is no drying time needed between layers.
Light plays an important role in my pastels because it has a strong effect on my emotions. I love the warmth of natural daylight and the high contrast of values it produces. The interesting abstract shapes that are often created by shadows fascinate me and often become a major part of my compositions.”
