About Lorrie Grainger Abdo
Multi Media Artist: Papermaking, Printmaking, Bookbinding, Collage and Paste Painting
Currently my work explores mark making, primarily in abstract form, and the effects one mark has upon another. Monoprinting, collage, and stamp carving techniques have greatly enhanced this artistic direction. Patterns are intriguing, but then what happens when they are interrupted? My work is almost always colorful because there are enough cloudy days in the world.
As the Administrative Director at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center I am lucky enough to be around creative people and unique equipment daily. I teach papermaking, paste painting, paper mosaics, printmaking and other surface design classes for all ages at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, Sievers School of Fiber Arts and other locations. I encourage all my students to keep their eyes open for things that will make great marks in wet pulp or on a painted surface. Part of the fun of creating is the hunt for objects that have multiple purposes. I believe that artists can see the “usual” unusually so start looking!
