About David Smallcombe
Since 1977 I have been a self-employed, full-time artist. I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan where I also graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing.
I have created this collection of jewelry through many years of experimentation and refinement. My work is complete with elegant lines, rich textures and clean simple designs. I strive to refine or distill my ideas rather than just adding more elements merely to balance the design.
The metals I work with include sterling silver, 14K yellow and rose gold-filled as well as niobium. I anodize most of the niobium seen in my work, producing rich color and creating a stunning iridescence on textured surfaces.
These pieces are fabricated by directly working on the metal, establishing rich textures, piercing to develop silhouettes, compressing and expanding to create embossed surfaces. My layered designs have interchangeable backs with a unique swell which creates wonderful depth within the work.
With the advent of the pandemic, I am selling my jewelry exclusively online. Please visit my website to see more of my artwork.
