For the joy of it!
About Tamara Hirzel:
Nature delights me and inspires my art.
I am a printmaker creating original linocuts, woodblocks and monotypes.
Each block is carved, inked and rolled through a manual printing press with a piece of paper. I repeat this process many times to create a multicolored, relief print. My single ink prints are often hand painted with watercolor, making vibrant images.
I also explore color through monotypes. These one-of-a-kind prints are created by using ink, brushes and a variety of tools to make marks on a piece of acrylic sheet that I run through the press with paper. Each pass builds the texture and color. It’s painting with a printing press!
My images are created with professional grade, environmentally safe inks on archival papers. From carving to press, these hand-pulled prints are each an original piece of art.
I received a BFA from Maine College of Art and currently teach printmaking at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Kirk Newman Art School.
