I am a multi-media artist working on fiber and paper surfaces.
All of my work involves painting in some fashion whether it be pastel,
watercolor, acrylic, or various silk painting methods.
My large scale silk painted hangings are installed in several
Institutions and churches in the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek Area.
With these pastel paintings I am returning to a love that I remember having
as a child – that of fields and trees and the layered way that they recede in space.
Then I depicted them in crayon; now I am doing them in pastel.
Currently I am working on a series of plein-air paintings
on locations in and around my Michigan home:
Fort Custer, Battle Creek and Augusta.
I love the meditative experience of plein-air painting.
You are alone with nature, the warmth, the cold, the sun, shadow,
and cloud, the song of the birds to accompany you.
There is a healing quality to this time spent in pursuit of an image
which will convey to others your love of a place.
I also work in my studio from photographs I have taken in my travels.
My hope is that these paintings will bring back
a fond memory of some place you love.
